Wow! I just dropped some NOS RCA UX-245s into the DRD45 amps. They just came to life! I think Nora Jones leaned out and kissed me....
Follow Ups:
Guys,
I can't comment on the DRD's but I can tell you that my Fi amps run both 2A3's and 45's. I prefer the 45's with my Unos. I run a battery powered Flatfish/Shigaraki dac like Ron does. The 45's are VERY refined. I owne Sophia mesh 2A3's and 300B 2.5's. The mesh 2A3's come close to the 45's in the Fi.If your speakers will work with 45's, go for it.

Ron,The EML solid plate 45's sound better than NOS IMHO and they have given me no trouble. Can't say that for the EML mesh. I still love my Laurels but the 45 just does some things that other tubes don't. Like that kiss from Norah! Spooky real and notes seem to 'hang in space'.
Scrounge a pair of the EML's they out 45 other 45's. Have not tried the TJ's though.
Maybe someday I'll try the EMLs.Brian Cherry says he's bringing a pair of TJ45s to VSAC next week so I'll get to hear them in the DRDs then.
There was a post on the tube asylum comparing the EML and TJ. I imagine they will be quite good. Please let us know what you think of them.

I made a mistake. The comparison was with Sophia 45's. I'll hold out for TJ's as Brian releases no tube B4 it's time.

OK, OK... I'll let it be publicly known here and now. My next pair of amps will be a pair of ultimate SS rectified DRD 45's. My Oris 200/AER MkI setup needs an upgrade.A kiss from Norah? Heck yeah! If NOS RCA 45's can do that, I wonder if the highly regarded solid plate Emission Labs 45's could entice her to go to second base?

They complicate life! Just when a guy figures that he's all set for awhile in the amp department, along come those things: One-point-eight watts of pure goosebump-inducing power: They've got a particular way with phasing and spatial qualities that's just kind of eerie. Have only heard it to that extent once before, via the combo of Art Audio PX25, Hovland pre and Avantgarde Duos, and that particular combo costs about as much as a new C-class Mercedes. When the DRD 45's are doing their thing, all else seems a little less important (food? who needs food when you've got food for the SOUL right here). Man, was I reluctant to see those out the door.

I have been in the Wilderness for the last 10 days or so. Your website did not have the Exotic Wood option when I left.I was ready to pull the trigger on the DRD45 amps with the Paduak wood upgrade and I was kind of hoping to see the price that you quoted me in the following thread.
This price still available for me?

CT,The 45 and the Auris will take you mind off fishing, or at least make a 'skunked' day better.
I'm after Snook from the kayak in Estero Bay this weekend.
I did get skunked. Did not hook a fish.Do you fly fish for these Snook?
I know a guide in your area that goes out in the summer near docks that are lit at night. He starts about 10 pm and catches some real monster snook right under the boat docks. The lights attact the baitfish and the huge Snook are attracted by the baitfish.

Spinning rods. Snook are pretty thick now. Been fishing the passes and beaches. The docks and lights in canals are quite popular. What's the ETA on the speakers? Do try a 45. Great sound with the Dutch speakers. Hard to put in words. Kinda like fishing.
Send me an e-mail and I'll shoot you a great kayak fishing site. I changed ISP's and lost my address book. The kayak gig is so much fun that I'm getting rid of the power boat. Check out the link.

Bad news is: I mis-quoted you on the Padauk and if I sell you the Paduak for $30 I'll have a half dozen other guys wanting Padauk for $30 too....since you made note of it publicly ; |Good News is: We're having a Sale that begins this weekend and you can save $100 on a pair of DRDs.
Bad News is: We'll be shut down for a over a week while we attend VSAC so nothing will be shipping for a while.
Did you catch any fish in the wilderness?
I'll place my order when I see the sale.Did not catch any fish this time.

Hmmm. What were you using before?

NOS ST Sylvania, Silvertone and National Union
Got some Sylvanias here (gift from another AA inmate) - but those 245s of which you speak haven't turned up often on my radar (only other UK AA inmate I know with some is Brian C.). Can only hope that some of the new production stuff is comparable, but glad you're having fun - and glad you make your stuff. On another note: Do you think there's any chance of VSAC becoming an annual event (up to my ears in newborn nappies)? I don't think I can bear to wait two more years for the next one.

I picked up the 245s off of EBay for less than I would expect the new TJs to cost so I'm pretty happy with my purchase. One tube is a little microphonic but otherwise they sound great.Rumors are that Brian Cherry might be at VSAC next week so maybe he'll bring some the TJ45 samples for me to test drive.
Unfortunately Doc is rumbling once again about this being the last VSAC so don't hold your breath for future VSAC events. It's a lot of work and a big financial commitment to put on one of these shows and everytime Doc decides to do the show, the volunteeers immediately disappear.
Not to fear though, myself, another gentleman and the Colorado Audio Society will be doing a show here in Denver October 2004. Stay tuned for details.
