Aloha RayKay,You in the Islands? I lived in Wahiawa until I was two and the family headed to the mainland. Anyways...
I tried the GTAX7M in my Tube Box. I like them much better all-around than the stock EH's. Cleaner highs, more dynamic, tighter and more extended bass.
What were your experiences with the JJ and the GE5751? Curious about how the 5751 does in that circuit.
Follow Ups:
I'm from Hawaii, and currently residing in Tokyo. I have family in Wahiawa and the rest of the west side, but I am a Honolulu city boy. How come you wen move from Hawaii? you evah go back, o wot. Get family still deah? Me, i prolly going stay in Tokyo fo little while....but one day, I goin back. OK, thats enough...
The teslas are airy, with a laid back presentation. I find that background instruments and details are brought to the fore, more even with the front and center instruments. Think of it as a cool breeze. I find the EH tubes to be heavier in comparison, like a warm summer wind. More accentuation and punch. I like both. I couldnt find anything interesting or useful to say about the 5751 in the box...perhaps I should revisit it when time permits.
Thanks for the GTAX7m tip...must try it out. Shoots...see you in the asylum again.
Aloha.

The GT12AX7Ms respond VERY VERY well to tube damping, moreso than any other tube I've tried to damp. I'm sure one reason is that it's in a phono stage, but the difference with them on is significantly cleaner mid-range and better staging.Jeff
Primo time. I was bummed to find out that now that I'm old enough to have one, they're made on the mainland.

eh Brah! my fadda was in the service, so you know, gotta go move with the job.use to go back and visit relatives, but no more grandparents, and running out of aunties and uncles too. my dad's folks use to live in st louis heights, my mom's in aiea. most of them went mainline anyways. funny thing, when my hakujine wife and i first went back (early 90's) to honolulu, we stayed in waikiki. i had never been to the beach there before, and man was it beautiful. no wonder all the tourists go there.
i guess you saw the thread about J-vinyl. easy to get over there? i bet you gonna have one big fat suitcase when when you come back!
also, you ever by from Aural Exploits on ebay? one of my kotonk friends runs that with her husband. vinyl only, mostly Classic Records (but no classical, alas).
anyway, take care brah!
I'm from Aiea myself...actually Halawa, the ridge next to Aiea. When I was small Halawa was considered kinda far from town...now its pretty close, considering the massive urbanization of the west side.
The thread on jp pressing is interesting. I have been generally pleased with jp pressings....there are US pressings mixed in with the jp ones, and pricing sometimes have no rhyme or reason. No goodwill for $1 hauls, but there is an abundance of vinyl shops, and the japanese are full of enthusiasm and professionalism, so shopping is enjoyable.
thanks for the tip on Aural Exploits. Will check that out. See you.
Aloha. Rans
