The 19 plinths over the years have yielded marginal results in terms of real improvement in sonics. The choice of footers and removal of the springs to a more rigid "capture" approach is much more substantialy an upgrade. If you are DIY-inclined I would simply do some work on the Jr.
YMMV.

Well then what DIY, besides the SAMA, would you suggest? I am not set on the route I mentioned. I would just as well tweak this for a while then if I ever make a change It could be a signifigant one.The feet I currently have on my Jr are the Large cones. They may have come from VPI.My table has the AQ PT 9 arm and I use a Benz H2 cart.Yes a VPI arm would be nice but not something I can afford.
Thanks
Chris
ps please let me know if your ever heading up to the Tampa Bay area :-)

What I did, is that I simply took the original VPI motor and put it outboard. Then I made a plinth and also took it "outboard".
Then the remaining VPI base, I took out the "suspension" and converted it into a sand base.IMHO, modularizing a VPI is a great approach in improving it in baby steps. It also gives you an enormous amount of flexibility to try out different materials for footers, plinth, motor mount or "plinth", motor drives, belt materials, etc. You can experiment until you get the "tuning" you are looking for.
My current DIY design, is this way, but it is not at all VPI-based.

Sounds a bit ambitious for me. Guess I'll stick with the DIY SAMA and enjoy my new Bluenote phono stage. Thanks for the input.

Which motor are you using for the DIY SAMA?
Just curious.

Poormans SAMA may have bben a better descrition. It just isolates the plinth from the base. I used large matel bolts to do it last time.

Well....Yes you are, of course, correct. I assumed you knew what I was refering to. ARe there other motors you can buy to biuld a SAMA for less than the 400.00 from VPI?

heck yeah!
I am not even using my TNT SAMA anymore. A $30 motor has effectively blown it away!Do a search for postings about the Papst Motor.
