As these are the Alan Parson LPs released recently by Classic Records. They sure sound better than the US pressings and $8.00 each in Mint conditon is much better than Classic Records at $30.00 each.I wonder how much better the Classic Records sound than my superb German pressings? I would bet not $22.00 better.

Follow Ups:
Earlier pressings have got an advantage in that they got the first pass on the tape. Each succeeding pass degrades, so unless there needs to be a better mix or the first pressing was crap then the earlier beats. I can't talk about 45 RPM because I don't have any.The preceeding is not first hand experience with pressing records but an accumulation of opinion I picked up while reading, etc. I have to think that my scratched copy of Dexter Gordon's 'Go' is better than a new release all shiny and unscathed. Mint would be better.
may actually have better sounding copies and saved $22.00 per LP to boot over buying the Classic reissues? They do sound excellent and they are early German pressings, NO UPC code and normal to thin pressings. I do understand master tapes wear but I have superb sounding 4 Track 7 1/2 ips pre-recorded Reel to Reels from the mid 1950's. It would be interesting to hear from someone who has both the German and Classic LPs.

for me it would be the way to go as I wouldn;t buy from Classic, etc, etc. I have not lsitened to enough records to make anything like a definitive statement but I have listgened to enough so far as to see that the first pressing at a cheap cost wind up being a very safe bet. There are cases where I have had to find specific pressing for different things like Traffic, but those things are the exception.
If there is a piece of music that you really love then getting it in several formats or several pressing might really be the thing to do. It's almost like reading a book you like several times...maybe.For me Ellington's records are worth doing that for; But with jazz it seems as though most first pressing are best.
It would be nice to hear from someone who has heard them head to head ... but I can't help but feel that those LPs will sound good ... unless anyone else on the block has heard them and can report a difference.
Man, I just gotta say that ala Ellington that if it does have swing it means something and that should always show up unless the pressing is garbage. The music is what swings and any nuance that is gained at twice the cost is only worth it if you have money to burn or love the music enough to toss it.
