I have used "Extreme Phono Stylus Cleaner" which is similar to Zerodust. On two occasions it left residue on the stylist tube because I left the stylus in the pot too long on a hot day. ME leaves no residue that I have observed.
Follow Ups:
"Zerodust" is a sticky ultra-soft plastic cleaner versus "Extreme Phono Stylus Cleaner" which I have read is a gel. So with Zerodust there is nothing to adhere to the stylus.I still don't know what makes Zerodust so expensive, but it works great!
we recently saw pics of a stylus that was black at the tip. Magic Eraser removes that. Extreme Phono and Zerodust do not.I was happy just using Extreme Phono until I saw those pictures and read those posts.
I still have the Exteme Phono but why bother when a few dunks with the Magic Eraser does the trick?
BTW, I know the pain of spending money on something and finding out something else which costs way less works better. It stings.
Extreme Phono becomes a museum piece.
A couple of years ago, right here. Until then I'd been dry brushing after each side but only cleaning (with an Extreme Phono) every 5 or 10. Jonathon very kindly posted his recommendation for cleaning after every side, to prevent that buildup. Then Paul "discovered" the ME. One of the first people we told about it is a professional photographer and he took those photos. Jonathon's word was good enough for me, but the photos really put a nail in it.

Some of the nasty baked on crud will defy damn near anything but the #M superfine sandpaper or one of the more competent liquid cleaners and a Brush.I use the ME and a Zen Dust and a Zen Dust used regularly will
prevent the nasty build up in the first place, if I'd known about the ME and how effective it is, I probably wouldn't have bought the Zen Dust, thrn again I do have my Gadget Jones ;-)
