There are TWO compressors on top, so you actually do get better cooling. The reason is because other refrigerators that have a single compressor rely on it to cool both the refrigerator part, and the freezer. The freezer gets to zero degrees, but when the refrigerator is opened, cooling transfers in an attempt to get it back to the desired thirty-six degrees. As a result, the temperature in the freezer rises. That is what causes freezer burn. Also, Sub-Zero's twin compressor arrangement is more efficient because it recovers faster. Not only does it use less electricity as a result, but it maintains the target temperature better. Add to all that a foamed in insulation, rather than the slap-happy, cheap, thin insulation that the others have, better finish, etc., etc. Then, there is the quality of the other components and the ruggedness of the frame. The bins are Lexan which is a GE invention that withstands cold better than other consumer plastics. It is too expensive for GE to use in their units, however. All this results in real value, although having the only major appliance that ever made it into the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection doesn't hurt. Jerome Caruso designed it, and he is one of the best Industrial Designers in the world. Also, Sub-Zero is a company that can concentrate on a single product, unlike their competitors. Their customer service is up there with Rolls Royce.

I can give a thirty minute talk on that product without repeating myself. There is that much different about it.
