In Reply to: Russco or QRK: is one better or just different? posted by KWILLIS on July 20, 2006 at 06:20:36:
Hi there. After using and maintaining both in radio stations years ago, I'd say they're both very similar. I don't think you'd go wrong with either as long as they're mechanically up to snuff.
Follow Ups:
I would not be suprised if the QRK tables were made by Russco. From memory, QRK decks are labeled as being made in Central California, (Fresno) and that's where Russco was located. The frames are virtually identical.I gave a friend a QRK and he is restoring it now. I can give you more info when he finishes.
You're right, they do look very similar. The problem is there is just enough difference that most parts are not interchangeable. I'm not sure where I will go with this one; whether I will pick up a QRK or keep the Russco. If your friend needs parts for the QRK though, I may have what he needs.

I used both when I was in Radio and they are very
silmilar, but I remember that the QRK line was
less expensive than the Russco line and that the
QRK couldn't match the russco in start-up time
which was a factor in radio but would not be an issue
in home use.
