1.)You gotta ground that TT 1st. You can get 3 to 2 'cheaters' that have a ground eyelet on the outside. Wire a lead from your TT's ground screw to that green eyelet on the bottom of the cheater, plug it in. Assuming your outlet isn't miswired (better check that FIRST), you're now grounded.
2.)If that doesn't eliminate the hum, you've got a broken lead in the cartridge. You can check that with an ohmmeter...let me get this straight. You got a cartridge that 'had NO output when I got it'? WHY did you not return it for a refund?

a $5 technics sl-1300 from the recyclery along with a mint $5 marantz 2230. :)will try the grounding scheme tomorrow.
