any of you folks got an rb250 with quirky antiskate?i know a bunch has been said about the curious and completely random antiskate on rega arms- especially the 250.. but i just shifted tables to a rek-o-cut b12 from a SOTA sapphire and a sumiko mmt..
now-- i'm still using the same cart (a grado gold), on a different table-- but on the sota- antiskate ran about .7g, now on the rek it's about .25 g.. what i'm wondering, is a nigh on 60 year old table possibly 'drooping' at the spindle (high in the middle)? or is manufacturing on rega arms and their corresponding antiskate THAT random, that it's off on the gauge by 1/2 gram?
just wondered as to other folk's experiences with this arm-- rega's are new to me!
thanks much--

Hi, the other post (by Garth) pretty well explained the Rega anti-skate mechanics. Keep in mind the slider is not precise, and the scale markings are only a basic reference and starting point. The best way to set anti-skate for any arm is by ear.

The mechanism works via magnetic repulsion. It is quite clever in that it imparts no direct mechanical forces on the arm as is the case with virtually every other kind of antiskate (there are one or two exceptions but not many) device. That said the use of anit-skate force is rather imprecise and can vary from cartridge to cartridge given the same VTF. This can be due to stylus profile and alignment, perhaps weight of the cartridge too.
So I wouldn't worry too much about a difference on the scale of 1/2 gram which is not intended to be ultra-precise.
