I used a 12v power supply so this dictated how many LEDS.I chose the brightest I could find (8mm at 3800mcd - whatever that is!)
Doing the calcs I ended up with 2 LEDs in each speaker, in series with a small resistor. The LEDs are quite directional and cast shadows in the horn mouth which I didn't care for. So I made small diffusers for each bulb using packaging material.

Follow Ups:
Forgot to add that if the light is too bright then it could easily be cheesy. My light is barely visible in daylight and comes alive as dusk falls. In a darkened room it is a soft glow, rather than a light display.

I was also thinking a pair of LEDs would be about right. I like the diffuser idea. Must try this soon. Then invite my audio buddies over and run an A/B comparison for sound quality :-)

Hope its a blind trial, or its a bit of a no brainer :))
