Would like to get your thoughts on the Howard Stern Show. But please, respond only if you've actually heard the radio show-not from what others have told you or what has been on the news. I'm a fan, but the show is not without it's faults. Looking forward to the comments and opinions-Rich

Follow Ups:
I think Howard lost some of his edge after his divorce from Allison. He's nicer now, more polite to his guests and callers. His funniest bits were the goofy phone calls by Captain Jenks and Ponce de La Phone. Unfortunately, they've all but disappeared.

I have listened to him a bit for several years (maybe 8-10). I don't listen much now. He has a lot of women who have been told they're hot coming in for evaluation. Most of the time these women apparently have misinterpreted pickup lines and aren't really hot (esp. for Playboy or Penthouse). I also get tired of the retreads of asking actresses and other celebreties if they do anal, lesbian, interracial, etc..IOW: boring.
I enjoy the show, but not so much for the scatilogical (sp?) stuff (though some of it makes me laugh), but rather for his take on celebrities, sports, topical subjects, etc.. The guy has an incredibly quick wit and his insights are not only funny, but generally pretty well thought out. That said, I worry a bit about the future of his show on Sirrius. ..If the move from public airwaves to satellite radio means his show goes from PG-13 (okay, maybe R) to XXX, then I'm outta there. I find it startling enough at times as it is, I really don't care to listen to nothing but strippers and porn stars discussing their craft in all-too-graphic detail. Based on my conversations with friends, I think a lot of people feel the same way. ..The need to keep things clean enough to keep from being bounced from public airwaves, meant that that his show fell within most peoples comfort zones. ..This may no longer be the case on Sirrius.

I never watch the E show because it's usually the same crap. I received a Sirius radio for Christmas and will enjoy the many other channels, but I have the same concerns that the radio show will degenerate into a real mess.

Howard reminds me of a 13 year old with an unsaturable 'peeping tom' type issue. However he does have a unique show. FCC also thought so to the tune of $1M in fines.

I have grown very tired of Howard Stern. He is a one trick pony who believes he invented radio. The show jumped the shark since he made his movie Private Parts. I live in the NYC area and when O&A were also on FM radio I was surprised on how Howie tried to keep those two guys quiet on trying to talk about him. Can Artie Lang suck up to Howie any more? What about Gary does he even have an intelligent thought that can come out of his big lips? I signed onto XM radio for the simple reason to escape from his boring radio style. This man is so paronoid he probably thinks his apartment his being monitored by the CIA. By the way Beth O is not hot!!! Siruis radio made a big mis calucation on paying him 500 million for his style of radio.
The Stern query that started this thread and the resulting replies gave me an idea.Rather than put "shock" jocks on XM or Sirius satellite radio services, how about if the satellite guys carried stations like the aforementioned KPIG that are doing innovative and unique programming?
While I love XM, the programming could be kicked up a notch.

If it could be made commercial-free I'd be all for it.

...and laughed some. But mostly his material is pretty tired. I have however, seen the TV broadcast of his radio show a couple of times and did enjoy looking at the "naked porno chicks with nice boobs". I feel sorry for all the poor suckers spending $100-$300 on the radio and then another $155 per year just to listen to his "show".On the other hand, the BEST radio station I've ever heard has to be KPIG. It's located on the Central California Coast. Since I live in Southern California, I listen to it on the web. It's way ahead of most stations I've heard.
Yeah, I found it channel-surfing while on a vacation to the central coast of California, and I couldn't stop listening. I wish that XM and Sirius would syndicate QUALITY radio like KPIG. frankly.

I live just up the road from our friends in Freedom, CA. I believe they stream their audio on the internet. I listen to my favorite jazz station in Seattle down here in Santa Cruz, CA that way.Cheers,
In 1982 I managed DC's first Video Rental Store located in the same building as DC101 when Howard was a DJ there. He and Robin and Fred came in once a week or so. This was when he was heavier, dumpy looking with nerdy glasses a bad haircut and the Dodge Dart. He was a nice, genuine and fun to talk to. He had no self esteem at all. Now he is kind of an ego maniac as I see it. I don't watch him except in passing and never listen to his show. Its just a T & A thing now. I remember when he did good comedy bits and daring material. Then again after flight 90 crashed into the 14th St bridge he called Air Florida and asked them: "how much is it for a ticket to the 14th St bridge"? That said I can think of worse things to listen to........
Now this is the kind of response I was looking for. Thank you for a well-written 1st hand account.

Maybe the water cooler or general would be a better venue.

It was simply an invitation for discussion. Perhaps if I phrased the question differently-such as "How well does your tuner receive the Howard Stern show?"-you wouldn't have felt the need to play the role of moderator. Again-I'm not looking for sarcasm or an argument, only INFORMED opinions about the show for lively discussions. There is nothing wrong with this forum for discussing a well-known radio personality.

Perhaps if you phrased it in a venue that dwells in this typw discussion you could better proctor your answers from people. The reason I asked what this question was doing in this forum is that this forum is about harware and making it work, not about some innane drivel from the gutter. I do find you presumptuous and very much out of place in your comment.

Scroll down and you'll see several threads regarding content and programming as opposed to the "nuts and bolts" of the hardware. Yet mine is the only one you questioned the legitamacy of, which makes it hard to believe personal judgement did not come into play.
Most members, when reading a post that does not interest them, simply choose not to respond. It keeps the boards civil and is probably the most effective course of action (or inaction). That approach however, doesn't enhance the feeling of self-satisfaction one apparently gets from referring to another's preferences as "inane drivel from the gutter".

Sheesh, every one of his TV shows are the same. Bring in naked porno chick to show off her boobs, or similar format. Not that I have anything against naked porno chicks with nice boobs but come on, lets get a little more creative. BORING.No interest in listening to him over the radio based on his BORING TV shows.

Would you give an opinion of a pair of speakers or any piece of gear without listening to it first? I'm not looking for a sophomoric "Howard Stern Rules!!!" dialogue, but an informed discusion about the radio show. The TV show appeals to the lowest common denominator as does everything else on the "E" channel. It IS repetitive and boring, but it's not a fair representation of the entire broadcast.
I have no problem with those who don't like Howard Stern, as long as they've at least listened before deciding.

OK fair enough. No, I have not listened to his radio show. I based my opinion soley on his TV shows which are a total BORE. But based on that, I am reluctant to give his radio show a try. It's a 'first impression' kind of thing. I wasn't impressed.

First impressions are often long-lasting. For what it's worth, the last hour of the radio show is filled with discussions on the news of the day. It's often a very funny commentary on the frequently vapid, shallow world of television and celebrity banality.

The last time I heard "great" FM was in Philadelphia round about 1971 when WMMR had the Marconi Experiment. It's all been down hill since then.
