Hi Chris,Are the GE GTB side getter equally as good as the RCA ones?
Thanks!
I meant to type GE, but I was actually being sarcastic. The GE 'GTB' side getter is not one of the better sounding 6sn7s. They did make a a 'GTA' side getter which is pretty decent, but it seems that one sees hundreds of the former on EBAY, etc.I have examples of both and some even have round vs. D getters. I need to reinstall them again, once the amp is repaired and see if they're as bad as everyone says. My memory has faded.
Chris
Don't worry about your memory, it still just fine. The GE 6SN7GTB is truly unexceptional. At least the 50's short bottle version. Later GE GTB's, particularly the coin base, are exceptionally vile.
The 50's GE 6SN7GTA is curiously a very good sounding tube. Really strong bass, very dynamic, and pretty smooth.
