  Save your money! Russian and Chinese 5U4Gs are WRETCHED. They are prone to arcing over under conditions that are well within the published limits. The sound leaves a lot to be desired too.

  Look for a strong used GE 5U4GB if budget will not permit the purchase of NOS.

    I have a lot of american, russian and european tubes.
    But for my experience, the russian tubes is very good.
    The 6N1P and 6N6P are superior tubes. The 6C33C and 6C41C have a very nice sound. I think the russian tube quality superior to american in some tubes.The american tubes made in the 80's is very bad.
    The russian 5U4G is a Svetlana tube.
    The Svetlana make the best tubes actually.
    The Svetlana 6550 is superior in sound quality to famous GE 6550A, in my amp.
    All depend of tube type and production year, and the amplifier circuit.
    But I need a current production 5U4G, and no have american type in production.I need a lot of these 5U4G tubes.

      True, but the Sovtek 5U4g is not one of the good Russian tubes in my book. The Sovtek 5AR4 is a good tube in my book though.

        But you listen the Svetlana 5U4G ?
        Or the Sovtek is made in the Svetlana plant ?
        Your tube have a tube or a "C" in the glass ?

      The thing is the new rect tubes are not as good as the nos and the nos are cheaper to..He is absolutely right on about the GE 5u4.

        Thanks for the post.
        I know, the american 5U4G or 5U4GB is reliable tubes.
        But this Svetlana and Chinese 5U4G probabily work fine if you use a 4uF capacitor in input pi filter as datasheet.
        The american 5U4G suport 40uF in the input and this russian and chinese only 4uF. If you put in a circuit for american types, the chinese and russian burn, because this tubes not is exact close to american types. If the pi circuit is correct, probabily this cheap tubes work fine.
