in fact, I still am on the Golden Tube group list, so I see a lot of people still using the gear to good effect, but there are a lot of blown resistors and the like. The GT SE40 supposedly can run the 5881s, but really, the Sovteks are more 6L6es, which are a bit more robust. I had a nice set of Sylvanias JAN 5881s get trashed in roughly 7-9 months of 5-8 hour days and I never did install my Tung-Sols, for fear of burning them up prior my selling the amp and my SEP1 SE preamp. All in all, it seems to be nicely put together gear, but I think that that amp was just stressed to the limits.
I also remember reading a post on rec.audio stating that 27 wpc was more like it, but who knows?
I never had any problems with my two GT pieces, but they are a labor of love for those still using the gear.
Follow Ups:
The amp appears to be poorly engineered thus I am with 'Robert H' on this one. I would want reliability, not a gernade. Good reply Robert.
