Are Svetlana KT88 known to provide a week bass output. Are 6550 Svetlanas better in the bass department? If not, what brand of KT88s are preferable for providing a deep and tight bass? I am having sound quality issues with the Svetlana's. Thanks.

Follow Ups:
I have tried a lot of KT88 and I found the EH KT88 is the best current production KT88. It is very balance and detail. Great Tubes! You can try the EI KT90 if you amp can take them. But get the type II, there are too much QC problem on type III Ei KT90. If your amp can take Ei KT90, this tube is even better than EH KT88 and much longer life too!

I believe the Valve Art KT88 is an often overlooked quality tube.

I've found the EH KT-88 to be better overall to the Svet, including bass. The GEC KT-88 has similar bass to the EH, slightly more articulate, but is more refined overall and has phenomenal highs and sense of space. I'm currently trying a 6550 (JAN Phillips) which has better bass than any of the 88's to my ear, deep, tight and resolved, and an overall very detailed but relaxed sound with slightly rolled off highs compared to the GEC, but still quite extended nonetheless. The GEC's highs are just silly good. Not familiar with the Svet 6550.

Although I don't have anything to compare to, I just bought an ASL AQ1001DT that came with the Valve Art KT88 GEC copy tubes and the thing sounds great to me.It is great in all areas to my ears, excellent bass and sweet mids and highs.

Ive used the SED 6550C's and EH-KT88's in my Cary amp. For me the 6550c's had tremendous vocals and strings but were weak on the bass.
The EH-KT88's had alot better bass but werent as good on the vocals and strings. I guess it boils down to what type of music you listen to and what your ears like to hear.
Amazing, I also have A Cary amp.(SLI-80) and I found the 6550 to be better in the bass and dynamics, while the EH KT88 is much better in vocals.

The KT-88 Svetlana (SED) is not a good tube IMHO. It has lots of tubby bass, yes, but not good bass and it has a very poor high end.The EH KT-88 is FAR superior. It has subjectively less bass than the SED since it isn't "tubby", but the bass goes deeper and it's tighter.
There is a tube out there called "Svetlana" but the comments I made refer to the SED or "flying C" tubes. The new "Svetlana" is not made by SED, it's a different tube by a different maker.
Though I haven't done any close comparisons, I've mostly used Svet (now "SED") 6550Cs for the last couple of years, but also bought a set of "SED" KT-88s. Between the two I clearly preferred the 6550C. I recently sold the Svet KT-88s and bought a set of ElectroHarmonix KT-88s, which I've been using for a couple of months. I like the sound I'm hearing quite well, but until I go back and try the 6550s again I won't definitively know which I prefer. But I definitely like the EH KT-88s quite well.
