It all looked pretty strange to me, kinda of like a fishing enterprise. It looked more like a bunch of odd lots rather than any serious attempt to sell something. I mean who need 50+ W-5's. Some weird feeling makes me think that I know who this guy is. But it is hard to tell. A while back I had some WE stuff on Ebay. There were some very strange goings ons with the bidding and a number of NPB (as in scumbags). Anyway I started getting calls from someone who said they were in Chicago or someplace, yet their phone number was local. The guy had a very slow, non-comital way about him (I can not remember the name he gave, though even I the time I doubted it was real). The guy basically wanted to buy stuff at far below its market value (as in he kept saying, "no I do not think that is the 124 you think it is, you see there were several versions, it is hard to tell"), but he would take 30 minutes or so to get anywhere near a point. He never wanted to discuss price. He just wanted to stop by and see "the stuff". When I said no and relisted the item, the same funny buisness went down on the bay. One item was listed three more times, each ending in a NPB scumbag. Then this guy calls again... Can you say vintage mafia. All very strange, all very decietfull. In the end we blew off ebay and sold a bunch of stuff directly to some Asian collectors/ resalers.
Follow Ups:
Agreed, dealing with the Asian crowd directly is sometimes best. I sold a nice pair of JBL 2395 horns/lenses that way, for far more than any cheapskate Americans wanted to pay. (sad but true.)Sounds like some sketchy stuff in the above Epay nonsense. I hate NPB scumbags. They deserve automatic non-returnable negative feedback, IMNSHO.
BTW, the archaicaudio personality is Vernon Vogt, the above poster is correct.
sounds like a trip to midnight-audio is in order. Anybody got a quiet truck( mine has a lightly muffled Cummins B5.9 )?
regards,
Douglas
