I agree, there are ok tubes, good sounding, nothing special, worth maybe $30 for the pair. Looks like a newbie got in their and got a big woody for them, probably because of the metal bases thinking they might be like the Sylvania 6SN7W metal.

Follow Ups:
Try to buy a CV1932 and see what it costs you. Good 6J5G(T) types are rising to the level they deserve in comparison with 6SN7 prices. Not sure about the particular type in question. As usual there are some really good sounding variants (including 6C5G and 6P5G)if you hunt them out and do listening tests. Some, like the CV1932 and 6P5G, are already expensive. Others are still cheap.

and 6J5's will never rise to the level of 6SN7's because NO commercial amps use them, and only a handful of DIY or small builder amps do.Simple demand curve - but supply of 6J5's is a bit smaller. I figure the auction in question is simply one that got out of hand because of the metal base myth and a newbie.
6C5 I've never had luck with as every one I tried was hugely microphonic. I like the lower gain of the 6P5 and I agree is's a super tube.

Well - I agree that commercial amps don't use 6J5, so where's the demand coming from? Must be builders. Somebody's willing to pay nearly $100 for a couple of CV1932s - they've fetched good money in Europe on ebay. Have you tried the 6C5G with the mesh screen? It's a pentode triode connected - personally I like it, though it has very little resale value. I believe there are also some solid screen versions but I haven't tried them. Agree on the 6P5G - but they ain't cheap, and somebody's buying those too! Maybe they're being used in simple line stages of the 76 type?

I agree, demand for the 6J5 is from builders, and owners of some boutique stuff like the Korneff that uses it. I guess now that I think about it, I sold a whole bunch of 6J5's last year and was surprised how much some went for.I did have some mesh screen 6C5's, quite honestly, I never had luck with that tube, every pair I tried was screechingly microphonic. There are solid plate ones, I tried those, same problem, I kind of gave up as I find the 6P5 more to my liking, really good sounding tube if you don't need the gain of a 6J5.
But the 6P5 seems incredibly hard to get, even though when I found some, they were dirt cheap - 6J5 users really should keep an eye out for 6P5's!
