Just for fun, a pic of this amp. The Philips EL34's sound much cleaner than the Mullard xf2's I'd been using.BTW, the inputs are Tung-Sol and the phase splitters are, of course, RCA Cleartops.
Still fooling around with this thing, so if anyone has better ideas for tube-rolling I'm listening.
Also, the metal rings on these old tubes can be polished and look gorgeous...are they nickel plated?
Follow Ups:
I'm using Yugo KT90 type III power tubes biased to 49 mv, Raytheon windmill-getter 5751 in the AX position, Amperex 7316PQ in yhe AU position. My Cayin TA-30 has Auricap, variable feedback, and external bias options.Quite the combination!
I have the 3 main mods, too. I use "focus" often, actually, and love being able to adj. bias so easily. - Scott

I'd like to try the same input tubes with my Philips EL34s and see how things sound. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for your post. I am interested in tube rolling myself. Have you tried the JJ/Tesla?They were the winners in the EL34 tube shootout. See the link below for the shootout.
I believe they are around $26 a matched pair from www.partsconnexion.com

tried the Teslas, YET!I've seen some cool-looking old Teslas advertised on A'gon, by "Tubemonger" and also a fellow in the Czech Republic, who claims his Tesla EL34s were made in a different factory.
Oops, it just hit me that you were probably referring to the NEW JJ's...hmm, haven't tried those yet, either. I went from the Chinese stock EL34s to Mullard Xf2 single getters, to xf2 double-getters, and now to the Type One Philips'. In all honesty, I kinda' like the xf2 Mullards for jazz as they make horns sound lusciously euphonic, but play a classical LP and it's obvious that the Type One's are the better tubes...I simply hear more.
looks nice! always like pics with posts, can you remind us the types and which way you want to go from (or to)?
