To make the KT90 sound good, it must be biased properly. When you crank the current draw up on 6 of these KT90 puppies to get that nice powerfull, smooth sound you will put a very large demand on the transformers. The manual indicates that the bias should be set for 220ma per side. Before cranking this up to over 300ma I would want to really be sure that the transformers can handle the extra current. The manual doesn't say is whether or not you can fully crank up the current draw to take advantage of the higher power tubes. It would seem like if these amps could put out 75 to 100 watts of triode, it might be advertised. This would be a good question for AES.

but I am not sure what the rating of the choke that is used on the B+. If it is below that then it would heat up, which it does at 220mA and it would also saturate. I bumped the amp to around 360mA and got no extra hum but the sound got soft after a while. I will call Cary.ja in cool and clear, Tucson, AZ

I have only used the stock tubes in mine so far as it sounds soooo good. But I do have some other EL34s and Svet KT88s along with some GEC KT66s. I am interested in others who have tube rolled with this amp including the 12BZ7s. I just haven't taken the time to do so but what little I have read on the Asylum some feel the stock EL34s sound the best. Perhaps Dennis carefully voiced the amp to these tubes.
