  Same pinout , slightly different specs . E80F should work in place of CV2901 (EF86) in most applications but remember the original biasing and load components may not be optimal .

      No Contest! I've tried just about every EF86/CV4085 out there as drivers in my Dynaco ST70... As soon as I plugged in my first set of E80F's, I never went back - - Not to my GEC Z729's or my Amperex Mesh Plates or Mullard Mesh or Nickle Plate's! The E80F is a sigificant improvement in terms of the bass - it provides for a very Solid and Tight low end Drive where none existed prior! I couldn't believe that a tube alone could do so much:-0 Furthermore, I can't complain about the sparkly sound up top:-D Midrange? Can't say fer sure... I'd have to experiment some more. I can't say I feel I'm missing anything there either:-)

      I use Uncle Ned's Driver Board with a 6CG7 Phase-Splitter and have made no modifications to the board for these tubes.

      BTW - The E80F is also know as a 6084 and is a 10,000 Hour Premium Qualilty Tube!!

      Try em out!!

      Personally, I see no reason to use EF86's anymore! Perhaps that will change one day... Right now, I'm quite satisfied with the E80F as a driver tube:-)
