the 182 *IS* the same pinout. I suspect he meant the 180, which is no way a close sub for the 5687. It might work in a 5687 circuit, but I suspect it won't be very good...
The 180 and 99 are the same pinout, and a circuit designed for the 180 could far better take a 99 than the other way 'round.

These are one of my "favorites". The 182 is a well known (M. Jones), but 180 is another "sleeper" tube. I tried it in some circuits actually designed for ECC81 and like the sound much more. I probably shouldn`t have said that, because "hoarding" will begin... :-)

Of course hoarding will begin, probably already has. There are no secrets that can be kept about un-hoard-able tubes...
