I use svetlana 6550 and raytheon 5751. the other tubes are westinghouse. I had mine updated by bill thallmann. He did a wonderfull job. sound is way better then it originally was. It is more open now, better bass and nicer transients,just all around sounds better to me while still keeping the cj flavor. I am sure it will be more reliable too.

Yeah, I've already got an inquiry in to him, waiting for reply. Do you recall how much it was, and what turnaround time was?
If I recall The update was around $500. It is way worth the price!!!! New 6550 amps with 75 watt/channel that sound anywhere near this good are very expensive these days.
My amp was already the A-1 configuration. I dont know if that will effect the price or not. The turn around time was 2 or 3 weeks. It depends how busy he is I am sure.

MB,Try a set (black plate, best) & I don't think you'll ever use another tube.
