Agreed. While statistical evidence would be difficult, I think that accepting PayPal does attract more potential buyers and results in higher final bid price.I am one eBay user that will not bid on an item where the seller does not accept PayPal. Any other way is such a hassle and part of the beauty of eBay, or any on-line buying of any kind, is the ease. If I have to run down and get a money order, and then the post office, etc., etc......forget it.
I also will not bid on items where the seller plans on passing on any charges of any kind. It is just ridiculous. Do I then have to pay for the listing fee, or how about a percentage of his computer platform, part of his electric bill, etc? Gosh, I can't remember the last time I went to a bricks-and-mortar store, whipped out the plastic, and the retailer said that will be an extra 3% to cover the CC fee. Real businesses calculate these sort of charges in the price. In the case of eBay, the minimum bid price should account for all this stuff.

Follow Ups:
If we raised our price by 3.9% you would not purchase it as you would say it is too expensive.
Oops. Read your post again. Raising the price by 3.9% is a much more professional way of handling your costs, rather than line iteming out all of the little charges. I run a business, bricks-and-mortor, and I don't think I could look my customers in the face trying those things. It is so completely unprofessional. But I stand firm on my position of not buying from folks that have the little notes about all the service charges after the fact.

It has nothing to do with expense. It is the sleezy practice of passing along all the little charges. Very unprofessional and no bricks-and-mortar establishment that is of any caliper operates in this fashion. As I said in my post, do I need to pay part of your computer costs? Your electric bill? How about part of your mortgage payment if you run your business out of your home?
So no, I would not purchase from you. This practice is sleezy, unprofessional, but all too common on the internet these days. People have just come to expect it. This is one consumer that will not! Way to many other folks that do not operate in this fashion and that is were the business will go. In the long-run, these practices are self defeating.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but is what your saying, you would rather "sand bag" the buyer after the sale rather then show the real total price up front? Merchant fees are exactly what the name implies "MERCHANT FEES"
