The low-noise 12AX7 is marked as 7025. How does the RCA 7025 compare to the 6681? Isn't there also a military-spec issue model 5751?
Follow Ups:
I compared an RCA gray plate 7025 against the GE and RCA 6681. Both vesions of the 6681, which had different plate structures, sounded more similar than I would have guessed--made in the same plant perhaps? I didn't like the 7025 as much as the 6681. The 6681 had better dynamics, smoother and more robust, definitely deeper and punchier bass. The 7025 was leaner, perhaps a little more detail, but maybe only because it sounded more etched and bright.

Hi Rlawry,I feel it depend on the equipment and our ears. Both tubes by RCA are very good but I prefer the 7025 to my situation.
Thanks,
Yup, I guess I like the big, punchy, robust sound--maybe my rig needs it. Have you heard the RCA blackplate 7025, and have you compared them to the gray plates?

I appreciate hearing of your experience. I'll keep my eye out for some 6681's. I like punchy bass :-)

You might still be able to get them from www.tubesandmore.com or www.tubeworld.com for reasonable prices.
