OK, so I have this friend that I've been bragging up the fine folks and wealth of info on AA to. He's considering a 299 with some pricey new speakers and other gear, or only a set of MC-60's at roughly the same total price equivelant. He says, "Ask them how a Scott 299A, B, or C compares to a set of MC-60 monoblocks." I tell him I likely put any credibility at all I might have on the forum at risk with such a question; that I think I can tell him what the responses might be. Still, he asks if I'll ask all of you for a few comments about the sonice differences between the two (the Scott and the Mac's) in whatever choices of desciptive words you are willing to put forth.
Follow Ups:
Hey-Hey!!!,
I suspect that under most conditions and taste that the MC-60 will be the better set of amps. Seperate power supplies, bigger output trans and likely better tube sets. If he is buying a 299 and set of speakers for the price of the Macs, the speakers must be pretty nice....
too much question, not enough other info...imo
regards,
Douglas

Hi, Doug. Like I told him, the question isn't likley to go very far but I said I'd do it for him. His PC pooped out recently and he's shopping for a new one so he can't log on. This is strictly a favor on my part.I know it's a very subjective matter as in, 'the 299 sounds airy and musical compared to the Mac's 3-dimensional presentation and crisp bass' or whatever. I told him I'd toss it out here for any responses that come in. Not much more info I can offer except he plans to run Magnapans and a tubed CD player (most a likley Njoe Tjoeb 4000).
Just how sensitive are the Maggies? Not very. So the most powerful amp(s) of the two brands in question must win. In this case, the Macs most probably have the upper hand.
