Hi, I'm looking for a modestly priced tubed preamp with 10-20 db of gain that also performs well as a headphone amp. New or used, $500-600 max.Any suggestions?

Think about the Melos SHA Gold. In your $ range (I think), sounds good and reasonable in cost re: tube rolling. Good luck.

I have several pair ... Grado SR60s; a very vintage pair of Stanton Dynaphase 60s, circa 1972; and a pair of those Advent wireless phones that often sound like a bad AM radio, but do allow freedom to do chores with terrific music along for the ride. The Grados are an easy load. I have the original box for the Stantons, but not the buyer's guide, so have no idea about its specs. The Advent comes with virtually no information ...
here is a nice kit

Take a look at the latest edition of "AudioExpress" magazine (and/or see the recent thread on DIY headphone amps, which was either here or in Tube DIY).
Hi Mike!Handy with a soldering gun and need only one input? Try the MAD Ear+.
