For me, they needed a lengthy break-in period -- the better part of 100 hours. Before then they were very brash, but they've settled down beautifully.Make sure you're not getting the New Sensor version, which is really the same thing as an Electro Harmonix (see thread from a few days ago).
I still haven't tried the Svet 6550, and it may be even better in my system.

K W tubes has the EH for $64 a quad. He has 6 of them on ebay with a buy it now price of $18, opening $16. Can't beat that! Chris

...when it comes to talkin' output tubes. Long may you glow, dude.
Thanks... I much appreciate the compliment. KW is a good outfit; they sell new electro-harmonix 300B with the cool white ceramic base for only $48 each! Imagine a quite decent quality 300B quad for $192! That's only a bit more than some folks charge for a quad of JJ KT88s... he also has supercool 1980s Svetlana military production 5u4gs that have 4 loops of filamentary cathode per side instead of one like US tubes.. They look very cool with all 8 loops of cathode/filament glowing... Chris
