....performed in October 2004. All a result of chronic emphesema and its attendent pressure on Swarb's cardio-pulmonary system. He has been gaining strength since then. You may notice in the video that he is still tethered to oxygen. His singing days are over (will be 66 in April) but his playing is as brilliant as ever.

that he can get up and give out the musical joy says volumes about the human condition.

From the band's website (www.fairportconvention.com):We are delighted to announce that the original line-up of the seminal Fairport Convention album Liege & Lief – with the obvious exception of Sandy – will be getting back together again for this year’s Fairport’s Cropredy Convention to perform the work in its entirety.
The 1969 line-up, which includes Ashley Hutchings, Dave Mattacks, Simon Nicol, Dave Swarbrick and Richard Thompson, will be joined on stage by Chris While for the 50-minute set on Friday, 10 August.
At the 2006 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Liege & Lief was voted 'Most Influential Folk Album of All Time' and the above line-up performed Matty Groves on stage at the Awards ceremony. In addition to this award, the line-up received a Gold Disc at Cropredy 2006 from Universal Music Catalogue for Island Records, almost 37 years after the album was released.
Festival organiser Gareth Williams says: "When Simon experienced the reaction of the public to the re-union at the Folk Awards ceremony and the subsequent Gold Disc award at Cropredy, he hatched a plan to include it as a very special showcase at the band’s Fortieth Anniversary festival."
Gareth continues: "When Simon shared the idea with the other members of the Liege & Lief line-up, the reaction was a unanimous 'thumbs-up'. They really want to do this and the only place to do it realistically is at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention."
"The plan is simply to play the album from start to finish with no other material and no encores. All that can wait until the Saturday night when Fairport Convention members, both past and present, will get together again for their more traditional re-union."
