I'd have to go with Black Sabbath - Live Evil. Sounds like they recorded it with a pair of headphones for a mic'.

One of the worst I own is Trumph- Stages. Although the concert was fabulous and all tracks are great, the recording sucks. The 2 disk set from Jaco sounds like listening to an am radio in a trash can. Another great performance with a lousy recording.

...To The Show That Never Ends. This POS was recorded in 1973 and has lower sound quality than a typical Grateful Dead audience recording. It's a shame, the music is great, but the recording is a joke!

..sounds okay on my system.Even better, took the CD, ran it through an equalizer, and then recorded on DVD.

For both I'm talking about the original albums, not any remastered cds. Chicago IV recorded live at Madison Square Garden in NYC sounded like it was recorded in the "blue" seats (if you know MSG you know where the blue seats were) with one of those 1970s hand held cassette recorders. My understanding with "Flowers of Evil" was that to get everything on the live side they had to reduce the volume or something like that. Any way back when I first heard it I knew what it was like to listen to an lp with one of these:![]()

Velvet Underground - 1969
If you're going to mention Live 1969, then you have to throw in Live At Max's Kansas City as well (VU, not Heartbreakers), I think. Although I guess that's more like an 'official bootleg.'Personally I'd name the Rolling Stones' Got Live If You Want It, and the KISS Alive albums. I could never tolerate the sound on those.

Loved that album in grade nine, when sound quality really didn't matter. I only heard the Max's album once or twice and I don't own it so I can't really comment on the sound. I actually find the crappy sound on 1969 kind of endearing, not really offensive, sounds like he's playing in my basement, with about as many people there as could fit in my basement. Reminds me of a time I was with some friends cruising around looking for something to do, came across this little club called The Cat's Paw, my friend double parked while I ran in to see who was playing, ended up being a local band called Deja Voodoo, there was no one in the club but for a couple of guys setting up the equipment, I asked what time the band was going on, and one of the guys answered back; "What time can you be here?"
