Hi,Does anyone know if a USB port can be added to a Benchmark DAC1, and bypass the need to convert to SPDIF?
Follow Ups:
I have not gone that route but i believe steve at empirical audio was offering to install usb mods to existing dacs for about 400 + or -. I still looking for a dac for him to mod .Alterantively you could also invest a hundred bucks on the xitel pro and run your usb to the xitel to coax to the dac. I do so at work at the results are pretty good but not the most elegant

Sorry if this is off topic, but I have a Apogee Mini-Dac with builtin USB. It works GREAT! Connects to Windows or Mac, simple setup, great sound. Apogee OEM for Mark Levinson's Cello Music System and this current version suppose to sound much better than their previous product.http://apogeedigital.com/products/minidac.php
It can be done with a TI pcm2707 chip, but installing an internal USB to S/PDIF converter will be almost as good. The converter eliminates the cable and much of the interface that causes jitter. I have done a number of these.
