    I tend to disagree. After having fought a great deal of design errors in their Phase 26 USB ADC/DAC, I find that TerraTec are quite clueless.

  but use the USB2.0 ports. In fact, I upgraded the older Dell I've got with newer 2.0 USB cards for that reason. They're a lot more well-behaved and stable than the older 1.0 ports built into the PC.

  I believe M-Audio offers Firewire support with other DACs in their lineup but they're a lot more expensive - around the top of your price point.
