If your plans for this Halloween do not include standing by your door all night, giving out candy to the little devils, you might want to put on some nice rags and head over to the Green Dolphin Street for a good night of piano trio jazz.Ben Lewis [piano]
Mike Arnopol [bass]
and Music Lane's own Duane Harvey [drums] !!!Enjoy!
I hear food is good too.Thursday, 10/31

Ah, the joys of leading a band......Got a call from Mr Arnopol last night that unexpected circumstances mean that he will have to do Halloween duty with the kids. I hate when this happens, but it goes with the territory.Filling in the bass chair will be Cory Biggerstaff (how's that for a bass name?). Cory is a new arrival from Lincoln, NE who is working on a master's at DePaul and studying with Kelly Sill. Kelly gave him a glowing recommendation which has turned my disappointment to eager anticipation. Kelly is easily in the top handful of bassists here and does not offer empty praise. Should be fun.
Hey D, good for you. If you ever bring your act to NYC, let us know. I'd be happy to check that out. Either that, or I may breeze thru the windy city on my annual cross-country drive to the mountains/ski trip early in March. Maybe you'll still be playing? I usually angle a bit south thru St Louis to hit I-70, but have been thinking instead I could go thru Chicago and try to time it when Kurt or Patricia are at the Green Mill, or just see whatever other Chicago jazz is available. Might as well - there's nothing once I get out in the hinterlands of Utah or Wyoming! I just heard M. Arnopal a few weeks ago at Birdland with Patricia Barber, btw. He was excellent, I thought - more understated and not as prominent the mix this time as I expected... but quite good.

Thanks Mike, (and you too, Dmitry). If I ever lead a gig in NYC, believe me, you'll hear about it. My career as a leader has been sporadic to say the least. I have no way of knowing what I might be doing a few months from now, but the ingredients seem to be falling into place for a new group and a return to more activity. Let me know when you're in town, it would be nice to hook up.
