Perhaps not totally unloved, but certainly woefully underappreciated great bass player who quietly hid away on the West coast, the later years in Portland.
Or am I confused? I remember seeing his name on some albums as bass player back in the days when vinyl was king. (Now I'm a CD man.)
He was on "Swiss Movement" with Les, and numerous other jazz albums from a plethora of different artists. He was actually quite a sought out musician and held in high regard by musicians and critics (who cares, right?) alike, as well as an influence on the younger generation of bass players, however remains relatively unknown. Go back through some of your old jazz albums and I'll bet Leroy will pop up on more than one occasion. The last cd he put out, "Walkin the Basses" is superb, if you can find a copy.
