Hi chiggy. For the Franck, the version by David Oistrakh and Sviatoslav Richter has long been a standard of excellence to me. It's a live performance from Moscow in 1968. On Melodiya and licensed to various other labels over the years, including EMI/Angel and MHS (on vinyl). If you see it, grab it. A more historic version--Heifetz and Artur Rubinstein from 1937--is also worth hearing.
For the Debussy, a couple of historical versions. First, try to find the Ginette Neveu (violin) version with her brother Jean at the piano. EMI for vinyl; various labels for CD. I won't classify it as a ne plus ultra, but just about anything by Neveu is a treasure. What's more, if you can find the EMI box (entitled "Complete Recorded Legacy"), you'll find several other wonderful works for violin and piano in very fine versions.
Another alternative is Heifetz (again), this time with Emanuel Bay at piano. I have it on an old RCA "Vault Treasures" LP; don't know if it's ever made it to CD.Happy listening,
Dirk
so many to choose from! thanks Dirk...its appreciated. that Heifetz is going to be impossible to find.best regards,

Heifetz and Rubinstein has been reissued as seraphim.
You are right: these are wonderful works. My favorite on these (same coupling) is by Kyung Wha Chung (vln) and Ashkenazy (pno), in Decca mid series. And it sounds very good, too!

Haven't had a chance to look through my stuff for it. BTW, very nice and includes Ravel's Intro and Allegro. Really a top 100 disc IMO.
Ashkenazy recorded it with Perlmann: a good one, but Chung/Lupu is something special.Regards
