For those awash in puzzlement, Walter Damrosch (d 1950) was the longtime conductor of the New York Symphony (which later merged with the NYPO, the new band calling itself the New York Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra for many years thereafter) known for his Wagner interpretations. He was also a composer of some regard in his day.Damrosch was music director for Sarnoff's NBC network and taught classical music appreciation over the radio during school hours. The network even provided textbooks and study guides.
No, this is not a rib, it actually happened. Inconceivable in today's cultural climate, I realize. But true.

Hi, Brian!I wasn't clear in my post below - I don't doubt the facts in the original poster's note (to the extent that I can make them out!). And thanks for your elucidations above.
What I love is this guy's sentence construction, as well as his logic as he proceeds from one sentence to the next.

Bill.
. . . but I can't help myself - I get such a kick out of these posts. (It's kind of similar to my reaction to the Engrish.com site.)
