Well,I have no idea, why I tuned out WCPE at various times. - I never said to them, they were providing high-brow "easy-listening" wallpaper of Haydn or Dittersdorf, for people to listen in background, WCPE never said anything about "easy-listening" for use on their own station. WCPE had about four complete symphonies of Brahms, but they were overplayed until taking an break, and by then, it had little of Schumann and Vaughan Williams, although they attempted the Violin Concerto by Barber and a Howard Hanson symphony.
But, I know a lot of classical music than this "Bambi B" character in LA.
Follow Ups:
Idiot savants are people who are naturally brilliant at one thing, but total morons in regard to everything else.Much more common on discussion boards are individuals who lack that one expertise that would qualify them for savant status.
Amphissa,You might also read my reply to markrohr on the subject of "anon" who has been a regular poster here for quite a long time, usually on the subject of radio stations, but there was also a long period of an odd, seeming obsession with two people: bass baritone and commentator Robert Samels and a composer named Jake Sentgeorge, who "anon" must have had some dealings with, perhaps as a student in Indiana- which is all I can glean from these posts.
The posts under "65.15.xxx.xxx"- obviously the same person as was another series under "4.160.xxx.xxx" intrigued me on several levels of language and psychology. Over the years I've tried to sort of provoke "anon" into answering in a meaningful way, but I can never manage to really penetrate and use his manner of language. In this instance as before, there is always "no comment".
You raise an interesting point as to the possibility of someone who may indeed be a brilliant musician for example, but has some other mechanisms that make for this unique approach to verbal/written communication.
I would dearly love "anon" to post with some degree of personal history, but it seems there this person wishes to always pursue this strange, impersonal and indirect way of communicating. His kind of surpressed personality does suggest something along the lines you mention.
I should mention, I don't intend to humiliate or taunt anon- who appears to care about the quality of classical radio- in some abstract way- but as long as the purpose here is to talk about music, only try to pry some direct communication so these posts are actual discussions of the topic.
Of course, the truth might be very simple that anon is someone writing English as a second language, but the word order and word use doesn't resemble language patterns I recognise. I don't think these posts are computer translations from another language- though that's possible or that these are somehow "generated".
Where's our friend Dr. Draz when we need him?
Cheers,
Bambi, of all the classical musicians I've known personally, many are eccentric, and some are socially inept as a result of their singular focus on music. But I've never met a real idiot savant musican. I suspect that some of the child proteges who never develop past childhood might be, but I've only read about them in passing.I don't know who this fellow is, but from the posts I've read, he is obviously obsessive (radio) and has some sort of disability that affects his ability to create coherent sentences. I've seen/heard no evidence in any of the posts I've read (which have been few recently, I admit) that he has any actual knowledge of music or capacity to play music.
I cannot help but feel sorry for the guy. He may be homebound, poor, the victim of some calamity of birth or circumstance that has led him to this state. Radio may be his only contact with the outside world other than his caretakers. But even people of extremely low IQ can learn the basics of civility.
On the other hand, he could be just some 13 year old kid who likes to have fun razzing the adults. Those types appear on many boards.
But I'll now return to my practice of not even reading his posts. It's a waste of time.

I typically do not respond to the aimless babblings of this fellow. I no longer even open the messages. This time was an exception, because I saw that you had responded. I may disagree with you about the merits of Schubert's music, but I admire your knowledge, understanding, exceptional gift for communication, and exemplary tactfulness. Anyone who takes a swing at you has problems -- one of which will be me.

anon,Placebos aside and asunder, and variable truncated obfuscations moved laterally suggests WPCE never applied "easy listening" pursuant to Howard Hanson and plying traditional chronographic syllogistic shifts to an attempted Barber after four Brahms or even three Dittersdorf and a Strauss is an old cryptographic trick that fools no one. As in the case of WPCE, these are equated sins of hyperbolic contrition as well as platitudinous ommission just as operationally deficient.
Yes, obviating the bifurcated leverotatory conundrum is enigmatically paradoxical and as always I agree with you completely. If so, my apologies if I never said, "Yes, this isn't clearly not the attractive case of not being what doesn't represent a non-unincarnated logical re-reversal!"
Can you, with all your knowledge of classical music and glue sniffing, deny any of this?
Cheers,Bambi B, LA character

markrohr,No, never a perfesser. However, I can spell, only not ackurately.
If the kind of disconnected language of "anon" interests you, as it does me- there are a lot of fun examples if you search this forum for "65.15.xxx.xxx". The posts under that moniker are obviously more than one person too,..
As a student of semiotics and lover of words, I actually would like to understand how "anon" in his various guises here manages to make language so incomprehensible. There have been conjectures about anon over the years that his posts are somehow computer generated, but they're far too illogical, and I can't really reproduce the disconnections, leaps, and odd word order and choices. The most interesting phrase in anon's post is "they attempted the Violin Concerto by Barber and a Howard Hanson symphony." - ",..attempted"!
Possibly a poet working on a discount grant at a body and fender school?
Cheers,
anon,I think you know well the old saying, "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me three times shame on the educational system, fool me four times shame on your parents, fool me five times and I speak to my attorney."
Cheers,
you ARE from LA arent you? but some here are so detached that they say "have your attorney call MY attorney". got that bernie?the fm market here in LA has been scrambled eggs for a while. from kbca (jazz) to kkgo (jazz) to kmzt (classical snippets) to kkgo (again, this time-COUNTRY!).
of course the late lamented KMET was a major casualty. its hard to find a good place to hear decent adult rock thats intelligent. a few years ago, a station tried twice and both attempts ended up as hispanic stations, one ended the rock format by broadcasting continuous laughing for days.
happily, kkjz (66.1fm) is receivable most everywhere i drive and at home in sylmar (my ratshack $20 fm roof atnenna has a fortunate look at signal hill). it is also available at kkjz.org and is about the best station available for jazz. of course that is arguable.
hey bambi, have you thought of the LA/OC audio society? we would enjoy an audio-knowledgeable female in our midst.

Mr. H.F. Tommy,Yes, I think it's impossible to live in Los Angeles without an attorney on retainer and I feel much more secure knowing "Bruiser" is only a cel call away! In a city where there is an attorney for every 350 people- I think the highest per capita ratio in the World, in my kind of business- architecture and construction, we have to dive for cover on a regular basis, just based on roof leaks alone. A good CPA is essential too, and I like him to be a staunch Republican who hates the idea of taxes.
The radio world in Los Angeles is always in flux, I think it's such a large market- I've heard the largest in the US- so there's a lot of Bushrands at stake and as you say, this leads to scrambled eggs.
For a long time, I've wanted to listen to more jazz, but as sson as I find a station playting it, they go off and do something else that's presumably more lucrative. I hadn't even heard of KKJZ, but my tuner dial doesn't extend to 66.1- I'll try the streaming site - thanks for mentioning that one.
As for the LA/OC audio society, I've been tempted to go functions a number of times- fortunately they seem to have events that are not all 90 dense traffic miles away, but I haven't managed to do this yet. I see in the events list there is a Brook Berdan meeting coming up and as I believe he sells Rega, I may try and attend that one and possibly hear a Rega Saturn at the same time. Perhaps I see you at that one.
Cheers,
KKJZ is also at University of Redlands 89.1 FM stereo for us in the East and I don't think Brooks Berdan displays Rega cd players but turntables instead. But, I never looked for one either, preferring to browse his high end gear. the rooms are quite cramped and the main listening area is dominated with his Wilson MAXX 2's and high end high ticket gear.
His meeting is Sat afternoon, much easier depending on where you live to travel early afternoon, enjoy the East side (Pasadena and Arcadia or even Claremont colleges area), then return to Monrovia for the meeting.

i AM brain dead because i meant 88.1. its the cal state long beach station that isnt run by students but great professionals.i got to meet chuck niles and sam fields before their untimely deaths. everybody thought chuck was invincible and sam was just too damned young to die! i met them when i volunteered at the station during pledge drives, something i highly recommend.
one nice thing they do is put up the playlist so if you hear something you really like, you can identify it and perhaps actually find and buy it. i strongly recommend joining as soon as you realize this is for you. it will go away if you dont.

brooks' store is a veritable museum, the cabinet in the record room is a wonder of bygone products. a visit there during or not during a meeting there is always worthwhile. take the myrtle exit off the 210, go toward the mountains.http://www.brooksberdanltd.com/Museum.htm
one can also win some nice stuff at the meetings by buying raffle tickets. i got a pair of silver acoustic zen interconnects ($1k) at one meeting and some nht super zeros ($300/pr approx) at the next. pictures can be seen in the past events tab.
finding tubes for your arc equip should be easy at upscale audio, we have a meeting there as well.
