Follow Ups:
Loved "Caverna Magica" when it came out - it was a bit of a staple at many hifi shows back in the early '80s, so got a bit sick of it at the time. Are you saying there is a Vollenweider SACD on Vox?

Geoff

Caverna Magica is truly a demonstration disc, but ineterstingly, with the new remasters, you can hear tape hiss midway through the album; it is like rain on the quiet passages, and even during the loudest can be heard faintly. It is being redone live. I actually like the remaster in the trilogy better than the new 24 bit remaster.

Sonically they are superb, and I really like the music. Here are the ones I have:
Title / Artist / Label and Number / Format / Purchase Price
BEHIND THE GARDENS - BEHIND THE WALL - UNDER THE TREE … Andreas Vollenweider - CBS Records FM 37793 LP $1.00
CAVERNA MAGICA (…UNDER THE TREE - IN THE CAVE…) Andreas Vollenweider - CBS Records FM 37827 LP $1.99
DANCING WITH THE LION Andreas Vollenweider - Columbia OC 45154 LP $1.69
DOWN TO THE MOON Andreas Vollenweider - CBS Records FM 42255 LP $1.99
WHITE WINDS Andreas Vollenweider - CBS Records FM 39963 LP $0.67As you can see my 5 LP Andreas Vollenweider collection set me back a total of $7.34 and they were all purchased in like new condition with perfect covers from thrift stores.
I can't imagine the SACD versions sounding much better, but considering how well these recordings sound and the fact that they are on Columbia records I am shocked Sony never released them on SACD!
I will say one thing his electric harp is enchanting and the musicians he chooses to play with him are superb.
As I mentioned, I first heard "Caverna Magica" at a hifi show in the '80s and bought it - played it on the Linn. Quite a delightful album, and useful to compare what I heard at home with what I was hearing at the shows. I then bought "White Winds", and I thought that one was nicer, less gimicky.Over here in the US I bought "Behind the Gardens" on CD, though I don't think that much of it. I also bought "Caverna Magica" but it doesn't have the spacious open soundstage of the LP.
Have not heard the other two. You certainly did well at the prices you paid!
Regards,
Geoff
