"... too few people... are willing to admit that there is even an RFI problem in the first place. (snip) But man, I'm adamant that it does exist ..."Adamancy requires strong evidence/proof. What is yours?
Best,

I'll vouch for Todd's statements, agree with his assessment about RFI as the main cause of Audiophilia Nervosa, and encourage him to continue on his soap box.My recent experiments with RF control and damping have been so successful in improving the detail, texture, timbre, and sound-stage performance of my system that it seems to me very unlikely that the root cause of the untweaked poor sound could have been anything else.
I'm fortunate to have been able to hear Don Palmer's home system, and it is the best reproduction I've heard. Don is a retired aerospace engineer who formerly made cables under the Highwire name, and who holds the patent on the Power Wraps devices. His system is tweaked to the max against RFI.
It seems very unlikely his focus and concentration on RF damping would accidentally lead to an outstanding level of playback if RF were not a pernicious problem. If it were not, then any assembly of reasonably compatible expensive gear would sound wonderful, and we all know most of them do not.
One of the worst local sources of RFI, IME, is the standard-grade TV satellite or cable box. I'm constrained to having an RPTV in the midst of my audio system, and a great revelation was when I figured out that the satellite box stayed on all the time and was contaminating the sound even when the TV was off. Unplugging the satellite box made a major improvement before I started to get serious about fixing the audio system. Note that switching the thing off with the remote does not kill all the circuits. It is useful to plug all the TV-related crap into a single power strip with a manual switch, so that it can be depowered when I want to do serious listening.
"...One of the worst local sources of RFI, IME, is the standard-grade TV satellite or cable box..."I'm having a hell of a great time lately listening to Sirius satellite radio music channels on my Dish Network TV satellite receiver through my Panasonic SA-XR50 digital amp to Spica speakers. Absolutely wonderful.
......everyone's power delivery (and quality of same) is different from one locale to another. You and Al are both correct in your evaluations.
I have dear friends in the audio industry whose taste in music is so different from mine that it is difficult for me to distinguish it from hot-rod chain saw competitions. Anything that would reduce detail and presence would make it sound better to me.
