Since I'm the one who suggested HTTP compression I thought I'd chime in. The problems described below are related to a bug in IE (basically any version for the PC since 5 as far as I know) dealing with gzip content via certain proxy/caching servers, and especially Network Appliance's NetCache product, which is used by some large ISPs. You can change your caching expiration policies to something like "-1" to tell the browser not to cache the page and instead load it again when the back button is hit, and that will fix the problem. Of course that will use more bandwidth since those pages would need to be outputted again, but it solves the problem of garbled output (though you could do browser detection and limit it to IE for Windows since this problem doesn't affect other browsers).

That makes sense, but I was having the same problem when clicking on a new page, ie. going from Tube Asylum and clicking on Tube DIY or General Asylum, NOT juut refreshing a page I already had in catch.

  I can get a page to load if I go pack to "Preferences" and "delete all offline content" and then reload page.

    Go to this page and just enter your Moniker. This will log some environment variables. I'm hoping that everyone that has problems might have something in common with the HTTP_VIA. If so, I might be able to work around the problem.
