that anyone could own close to 100 classical DVD-As. While I didn't place any Tacets in my top 20, I have yet to hear a bad one.

I didn't even think there were that many. How do you rate the EMI titles overall? I realize you have included some on your top 20 list but they are $24.99 I beleive for recordings on that label. A little steep but I think I'd like to try one of the Mahler recordings.

They rate many of the EMIs very highly. I particularly like the Mehta Mahler 2.

It really is a matter of personal taste, isn't it. I like all of the Tacet, MDG, and AIX releases I own (most of them). Too bad that Hodie is so taken with M. Cobra & Co. I think Naxos follows the others, their four seasons is superb. And I like all the Warner early releases. You're right Jim, there's a lot out there that doesn't get too much attention. You have to look.

While my main bag is jazz which DVD-A has very little of, I should be able to find enough classical titles that I would be interested in. I do like some rock/pop but haven't listen to that type of music very often any more.Do you have the AIX Beethoven & Scarlatti recording? It is sitting at a local Barnes and Noble store and it is the only one they have from that label. Do you like the music and sound quality of this one if you have it?

Yes I have the AIX Scarlatti - Beethoven Woodwind recordings. It is very nice. I recommend it highly. It is a good introduction to the Romanian series Mark did a couple of years ago. The Mozart Symphonies he did with them are also quite nice. I didn't especially like the EMI classical pieces. I would start with the newly recorded hi resolution pieces done by AIX, TACET and MDG. If you like jazz, AIX has some good stuff - I completely agree with John Kotches recommendations. No one has mentioned the Bobby Short - Piano recording by Surrounded by Entertainment. It is one of my favorites.

and the new 192/24 discs from Classic Records. All three should be reliable sources.

OK Jim you've got me. Where can you find the Arts Nova and Vanguard 5.1 releases? By Classics, are you referring to the Silverline Classics series?
![]()
I believe they are from Vanguard sources, and they're out in three weeks. There are some very good conductors, orchestras and titles. The Arts Nova may only available through sendmemovies.com.

Thanks Jim.
