In Reply to: Behringer SRC2496 (and DCX) available again!...? posted by sendler on August 13, 2006 at 05:23:24:
Yup.. my dealer had one in stock this weekend. What are people using for digital cables when passing spdif between XLR and RCA connectors. Specifically, how are people managing the impedance difference (110 vs 75 ohm) when using a cable?

Follow Ups:
There are transformers available to change digital from rca to xlr but I have been using a cheap rca to xlr adapter with no problems and it sounds great. What unit did you buy and what is the date code?

Yes... I have been using an adapter til now... but simply wanted to try something more to spec. It does work.. just not sure if something else would work better.I picked up an src2496 (already have a DEQ2496). My date code on the SRC is 0403 (old stock I assume).
I believe the date codes of the SRC are month/ year. The DEQ and DCX date codes are year/ month. Your new SRC was made in 2003. They are a great unit though. Too bad they got tied up in court. Looks like the M-Audio unit is out of production as well. Could it be the little button that strips out the Serial Copy Management Code? Hmmm.

Have any 06 date codes turned up? It would be interesting if they had ceased production due to the copy management.

The Behringer SRC and DCX2496 Have been out of production since June 2005. As best as the DCX Yahoogroup can piece together the rumors, it seems that there is a legal battle involving the units which use the Crystal Semi receiver chip which has the selectable option of stripping the SCMC from the data stream. This chip was the defacto receiver in the high end industry for years in it's various incarnations but never seemed to get anyone else into trouble. Fortunately, the DEQ uses an AKM receiver chip so it wasn't involved. The only good thing about it was that Behringer issued a price cut in the eleventh hour to dump the units that had already been built. The DCX went from $399.00 to $250.00 and the SRC went from $250.00 to $125.00. There is no new production yet from the date codes that people are posting about their new units.

HowdyThere are boxes out there which convert properly between XLR and RCA (e.g. the M-Audio CO3), but when I talked to the manufacturer of my DAC he said don't worry about it :) So I didn't and it works fine. YMMV.
