Hello fellows inmates,
I'd purchased ,yesterday, a Cardas Golden Reference Power cord for my cd player (Meridian G08), I've been using a XLO reference 2 PC. What a disappointment. The bass sound boomy now, and the midrange boxed. My cheap XLO sound way much better (very open) or at least have a better synergy on my system. What the inmates think about it?

Follow Ups:
The Cardas GR works well for me on my integrated amp but not my CD player. On the CD player, it makes the top end sound dark, the bass bloomy, and restricts the soundstage. I think the blame lays with the ferrite bead. On the integrated amp, it boosted the bass a bit with only a slight loss of HF extension and no restriction of the soundstage.
Thanks to all inmates for the answers. I'll try to plug the cord on my computer for a week to see the difference after that.

my experience is similar...Plus, - I find that Meridian CDP, as with all Meridian products to sound warm. If it were me, - I'd be buying a PS Audio Lab AC cable with my Meridian...
Cheers,

In addition to a long time to settle I would also get the Cardas PC off the floor by about 8 inches so that your carpet isn't changing the the dielectric of the cable . All my cords are off the floor and separated by 6 to eight inches , even IC's . make sure that parrallel runs are separated . IC's pass over PC's at a 90 degree angle . This seemed to open my soundstage by a large degree .
If you're talking about the XLO ref 2 10a, you're comparing two very different sounding PC's. Even after burn-in, the Cardas will have a lot less midrange energy than the XLO. I've found the Cardas golden ref to sound excellent in super-fast sounding systems that may be a little lightweight, or that are a tad forward in the middle. If neither of those describes your system's sound, then you may not find synergy with the Cardas cable.

I use all Cardas Golden Reference in my system and like Sundance said `Cardas takes a long time to break in.....` Be patient and play music. The more you play them (don`t move them) they will reward you with wonderful sound. Like fine wine they get better with age.
Wow, do you have any idea the amount of time a Cardas Cable takes to break in? If you are not a believer in "cable break in" - a Cardas Power Cord will educate you and grow you up real fast. I had all Cardas cables (power cords, interconnects and speaker) many years ago and enjoyed them immensely. BUT, when I first put them on my system new out of the box, they completely shut my system down! It was awful and I was completely confused. This was late 80's early 90's and long before cable break in was even a discussion (or debate), all I knew was the reality of the outcome with my experience. Even if you bought the cable new, it still needs time to "resettle" into your system. Be patient, Cardas takes at least a couple of weeks to loosen up and really reveal itself, a day is not enough time to evaluate no matter what you decide in the end. -Scott

I bought my first cable burn in device in 1992. There were a few dealers that offered to use their cable cooker on products I was interested in. Cable burn in didn't just appear recently......

Sooo... RadioWonder and TommyTube... where were you when I needed you? I'd rather be constipated than breaking in new cables. Funny, I live in Arizona now and plan to purchase an Audiodharma from AudioExcellenceAZ very soon.

I am here...How can I help you?Good to hear your going to get the Audiodharma.
Alan makes a great cooker.
I use mine on a regular basis.
I have seven of the Power Cord Adapters so I
can do a whole system at a time.I have the standard model.
If you need to cook everything in your system
at the same time, you may want to look at the Pro-Model.The reviews are true IMHO,you don't know what your
cables really sound like until you cook them.
At least this has been my experience.

Still have my first cooker. Circa 1991.
It sits on a shelf and I use my Audiodharma Cooker.

That is, even used Cardas cables need time to resettle in your system. Hope this helps.
