If Oyaide or other premium-priced AC gear is too pricey for one's budget, the Furutech FP-15(Cu) AC outlet offers excellent price-to-performance value and is a substantially better sounding (and not much more expensive) alternative to P&S, Hubbell, and other hardware store variety and Hospital Grade AC outlets, IME. I also find the FP-15(Cu) to be a fine AC outlet choice to connect digital gear with since while sounding very open and resolved, it also offers a notably natural/organic/musical presentation rather than an analytical perspective, as I find it's "relaxed sonic signature" to impart a certain "analog warmth" without sounding colored/euphonic as a result...
For the cost of upgrading to Oyaides, one should consider auditioning the Shunyata outlet. They're less expensive, and offer an outstanding level of performance. I prefer them over both of the Oyaide outlets I tried. An outlet that's also very good, but slightly brighter sounding than the Shunyata, is the Cryo'd Pass and Seymour MRI outlet. Completely non-magnetic, with hospital-grade contacts. They're a bear to find though.

Yes, I'd read that article previously. My only concern with that article is it's "rah-rah" for Shunyata tone, and the fact that it took place in Shunyata's reference system. If a Shunyata product didn't sound superior in their own reference system, then they wouldn't be letting reviewers audition it, now would they? That kind of review is pretty meaningless, unless you happen to have the exact same equipment as the manufacturer's reference system. Of course I'm speaking in general about the value of such a review, and not saying that the Shunyata products in question aren't superior to the other's (not mentioned by name) in the review.
I wonder if the AC outlet Caelin Gabriel mentioned as being the "current darling of the internet forums" is Oyaide? If so, the writer should have just said so, instead of just reporting a vague slap at the competition.
as to why the SR-Z1 is even here is because the vaunted "Venom" was a POS which corroded easily. Great quality control and extensive research for a $100.00 outlet. I could be wrong(my info comes from a Shunyata dealer). I think Shunyata is over-rated. I also love my FP-15s.

Really? I'd not heard that, and I find it hard to believe any AC outlet could corrode under normal conditions. Tarnish a bit maybe, but corrode? I tried the Furutech 15's, and wasn't exactly blown away, which is strange, since my experience has been overwhelmingly positive with other Furutech AC products. I prefer the Shunyata Z1 or FIM 880 overall, with the Cryo'd Pass & Seymour MRI being the budget leader in my book.
always a chance something got lost in the translation (maybe he meant tarnish). Still, for the cash and hype, I expect more. I was using P&S (not the cryo'd MRI) before intalling the Furutech. There is more visceral bass with the P&S (I've heard this sound to be similar to Hubbells), but the quality of the bass is much better through the FP15s. Midrange is vastly clearer and cymbal crashes have a natural decay which was missing before. I agree about the price/performance value of Pass & Seymour though.

Hi mt,I am not aware of any issues with tarnish, corrosion or other functional problems with the
Venom outlets. I would assume the dealer that mentioned this, or a consumer experiencing tarnish/corrosion would have contacted us by now. Had they done so, I'd know about it. Please encourage them to contact us.Except for the possible _over-application_ of contact enhancers, such as pro-gold, there is little chance that a silver and rhodium plated outlet of any kind would corrode or tarnish, even in the far east countries.
The only reason for the SR-Z1 introduction was that our designer found a way to improve the outlet and lower the price, not because the Venom outlet was inherently bad.
We have never advertised or hyped either the Venom outlet or the SR-Z1 in any way. We make the outlets available for sale but we do not promote them. Their main purpose for us is for use in our power-distribution units.
The other outlets compared in our Open House event were not mentioned as that is not relevant, and it was not supposed to be a media driven "shootout". We were merely demonstrating that just one outlet change in almost any system can be perceived as significant-- for the better or worse. That was the goal of our demo, not to put down competition. We had no idea what would be written until we saw the article along with everyone else.
BTW, I've tried several Oyiade products and they are all exceptional in performance and build quality.
