Hi
I now have my very fine YAMAHA M 80 power amp.I recently asked some questions about mains cable issues,to which several people very kindly tried to answer. What I need to know, now I can actually see the mains cable on the amp, is this: The amp has got multi volyage select, which has been set to u.k. 240v,so no problem there. However, the mains cable(captive),as it has been used in the u.s.a. comes with a 2 pin(flat pins)plug, which is sealed,no screws for removal or inspection. The mains cable is very thin, and I am sure if I were to just snip it off ,only 2 wires would be inside. This means that it operates in a fig of 8 way.I could go out now and buy a u.s /u.k. converter plug, but is it that straightforward??.Fig of 8 (double insulated 2 pin) are used here in the u.k. for much more lightweight components not big power amps.I would be happier with a heavier cable wired internaly to the amp, with the earth(ground) taken off an earth tap and a 3 pin u.k. plug on the end.Maybe this is not an option .Maybe the amp would opperate in completAs e safety on the fig. of 8 thin cable an' all, with a converter plug? ?Perhaps there is no provision of an earth tap inside the amp? As I have no service manuals
to refer to,I was wondering,as the amp is designed for international use, what the manufactures proceedure would be with respect to mains cables, earthing and mains plugs? If any one has got to the end of this post, and is still awake could you help me out?!! I need to know the amp is safe to use and I ain't gonna blow anything up.

Follow Ups:
Cut the US 2-pin plug off close to the plug and chuck it.Strip off 1" of outer insulation, and then connect the two wires to the L and N terminals of a standard UK 3 pin plug. Black wire goes to the L terminal and White to the N.
That's it.
There are millions of amps etc supplied and wired like this. The manufacturer has designed it so that it doesn't need an earth.
It is safe. Get on and enjoy it!
Hey Cliff
THANKS!! AND thanks for reading all that stuff AGAIN!! That is very reassuring.
beat me to it ............if you rewire the amp don't try to add a earth!!! though you can use three core cable. just wired as described .
