im using canare f10 rca plugs. the 0.01uf 50v ceramic caps that i have wont fit into this. and because the ic - with the teflon tape - 3 wraps over the cores, followed by cotton string on the crease and overall wrapped one more time with teflon tape, followed by a shield, has made the cable thickish that i cant slide the canare far back enough - in any case even if i could, the cap wont pass through the rear opening of the canare.so,if the idea is to connect the one leg of the cap to ground, would it be insane to have lets say half an inch of the leg in intimate contact with the outer shell of the plug - one of the twisted pair cable will be hard grounded. a very tight heat shrink -double layered perhaps to maintain the integrity of the contact between the cap and the rca shell, could be applied to keep it in place.
if this is crazy let me know.
Follow Ups:
I am not sure what iot is exactly that you are asking. If you are asking: "Is it OK for the leg of the cap that is going to be connected to ground to touch the barrel of the RCA plug?", then, yes this is OK.
If you are asking if you can make the cap's ground conection through the barrel, this is not recommended, BUT, if the barrel makes good contact with the rest of the ground portion of the RCA, then it may not be so bad to do.
If your question was someting else, please be more specific and detailed.
hi jon, thanks for the reply. sorry if the post was not clear. what i plan on doing is connecting the cap to the load end simply by having the leg of the cap that is to be grounded in intimate contact with the barrel [exterior]of the rca plug, which contact is to be maintained by a very tight heatshrink.there will be no soldering. i have checked the plug and the barrel makes very good contact with the ground.
thanks
mike

The contact will not maintain integrity over time, and could become a rectifier, causing RFI instead of preventing it.If your space situation is so poor, consider having the cap OUTSIDE the barrel, and a ground connection made using a short piece of wire that runs inside the barrel to the ground lug.
HS the cap to the overall cable, outside the shield braid, making sure the cap is not shorted, etc.
thanks very much for the reply jon. point noted.
