Wondering if any of you can recommend some (hopefully inexpensive) power cables for my Rowland 501 monoblocks.
I am leaning towards DIY with some Oyaide (079 or 046) or Furutech plugs with the following choices of DIY cables:Acrolink 6N-P4030
Furutech (Their better ones, either the 10 gauge one or the silver plated 14 gauge)
XLO Ultra 10 (purple)
JPS Power AC in wallI heard that the 501 likes thinner gauge cords. How thin should I go?
Currently using a set of DIY cords with the cheapest wattgates and a double shielded thick (<10 gauge) industrial looking cords and find the sound perhaps not sharp and clean enough, particularly the bass.Thanks.

Since you are located in Hong Kong, I assume you can purchase Acrolink and Oyaide products at a lesser cost than in the US. I would look into the Acrolink power cord with Oyaide connectors (perhaps a mix of palladium and gold for the plug/IEC combo).

Thanks.I've always been a little confused over the sonic qualities of the various Oyaide plugs (and I've yet to locate them or the Acrolink stuff in HK, although I do see a lot of Furutechs around.). 79 is the warm one, 37 is the really sharp one and 46 is pretty much in between, right? If so, what do you think I should get. I'm going to plug them into a Furutech et-p60 distribution box which goes into the wall via JPS power AC.
In general, I like the Furutech FI-11M(Cu) copper AC plug and Furutech FI-11(Ag) silver IEC connector combo very much. The JPS power cord to the wall is a good choice based on reports I've read (make sure to upgrade your wall outlet, too). I would go with the Furutech connectors mentioned, and order DIY bulk power cable from VH Audio in the US (worldwide shipping available). The "Flavor 2" type power cable (unshielded twisted pair with external ground conductor) should do very well with your amp, and has a great reputation in the US.Email Chris at VH Audio for DIY advice.

Hi eduardoo,If you don't wish to place a US mail order, and of the cables you mentioned for use on your amplifiers; the Acrolink power cord cable with either the Furutech connectors I mentioned, or an Oyaide P-079 AC plug, Oyaide C-046 IEC connector combo might be of interest...

Thanks again.BTW, I am quite intrigued by the possible effects of the plugs. Can you elaborate a bit on what to expect?

Your Rowland 501's are solid state, so the suggested connectors with a DIY bare copper power cord should do quite well, I expect (being fed by a Furutech ET-P60 should be an excellent factor, too). But, if I were to say you should expect something in particular would be pure speculation, and not fair to you.JM2cents...
It's difficult to explain the possible effects in absolute terms. In general; plated Audio Grade AC product's impart particular sonic signatures that affect perceived speed, warmth, tonal balance, dynamics, detail, and soundstage/imaging qualities, among others. Fine tuning is perhaps the best descriptor but, an AC connection product can also make or break a power cord's performance in a system, in my experience.
The synergy of an AC plug with it's IEC connector is something of importance to consider. All audio connectors (not just AC connectors) act "similar" to a camera's lens, with the cable being the "camera". The selecton of a "lens" that convey's a more subjectively accurate or beautiful picture is the goal. In the case of a power cord, there are two different "lenses" (three including the AC outlet) that can be "blended" for sonic tastes via their synergy.
The Furutech combo I mentioned synergize in way that sounds excellent and quite natural. The AC plug's sonic signature is complemented by the IEC's sonic signature. The Oyaide AC plug/IEC combo is the same plating combo as the favored Oyaide SWO-XXX/P-079 outlet/plug combo, so it should be a very sweet choice, I expect. The suggested positions are reversed based on a hunch that the palladium connector would be better placed downstream as an IEC connector.

Thanks for your valuable advices. I'll give it more thought and try to build something nice.
Go for the Oyaide connector combo with the Acrolink cable and report back (I'm on a limb, but I bet you will be pleased)...
