My 2 cents worth.........

I know that there are those who will disagree with me but.........

The DUAL 701 is an excellent turntable and, since you already own it, and assuming it is in good condition, you would be wiser to put your money into a good cartridge. The MMF-5 is an excellent turntable and I have no problem suggesting it to people but I don't think it is significantly better than the 701. To the MMF's credit, it is a simpler machine and likely to be reliable for many years whereas the Dual is full of electronics and levers and is getting rather old. The Dual may never break down and they are very reliable BUT there is more to go wrong as years go by.

The 701 is a prime example of how to properly do a direct-drive turntable (there are a few others) and it has a very good tonearm. Granted, the arm is not state-of-art but it is awfully good when used within its limitations. I would stick with moving magnet or moving iron design and forego a moving coil cartridge. A top-line Shure or Audio Technica would be a good choice and would cost much less than an MMF-5.
