I used quarts. I used smaller crystals say about 1/4 inch in diameter on the input power transformer and slightly larger ones about 3/8 inch for the power transformers. I used tumbled quartz which have irregular flattened shapes with the flats against the coil windings. Smaller 1/4 inch sizes seem to work well when placed on top of the IEC inlet and the binding posts.
