You are correct. they have no hum that I could detect. I have a ARC LS7 that is considered to be a good tube preamp, and it has hum that I can hear about 2 feet away from my speakers. I could not detect any hum, even with my ear against the each of the drivers. The older MP-6 Dared single ended amp using a 6L6 tube has detectable hum. The VP_300B is excellent in that regard, in that I could not detect any hum on any of the speakers I used it on. When I listened to a AES 300B amp (kit about $950 when I listened to it about 7 years ago or so), had some hum to it, as did a Jadis I once auditioned back in the mid 90's (low nothing to get upset about in both cases). There are no hum pots on it that I know of, and I have looked inside every thing.
The labour cost to buid these is very low as is the materials being from China. If one judges these as being cheap because of the price, you are dismissing a very good quality amp. The price to quality index I would say is one that allows many people who do not want to build a kit, get a 300B SET amp at a kit price, maybe even better. Even with a low price one should at least audition the ampand compare it to toher 300B amps before buying. If nothing else, it gives a good starting point, and for many a great place to end.
