But the jitter at the initial A/D is NOT zero..... There is jitter there just like during any conversion.....
I think the key to good digital audio playback is not to reclock the digital signal, but to preserve the original A/D jitter signature.
Some CDs have a semblance of that A/D jitter signature, and some don't.... I think only the ones that don't get some benefit from reclocking..... (And maybe those rare recordings in which the original A/D jitter was exceptionally low.)
I think this could explain why ripped files from CDs and file-based digital often don't sound as good and just playing the CDs directly.....
But like with other audiophile thinking, this could be all in my head...... [-;
